About us

The Alcomon Company is founded and run by Andries J. van Dam, the inventor of the Alcomon Indicator System. He started his career as collection manager and later as conservator at the Anatomy Museum of the Leiden University Medical Centre.
His research interest has primarily been focused on fluid preservation. He has published several papers in journals such as Collection Forum and Cell Preservation Technology. During this period he also represented national and international professional societies such as ICOM-CC.
His pragmatic approach to classic problems encountered in fluid preservation has lead to several discoveries and innovative ideas such as an alternative for formalin, a decision-making model for the conservation and restoration of fluid preserved specimens, and the Alcomon Indicator System.

FUNCTIONAL LIFESPAN MORE THAN 50 YEARS!
Report "Determination of the Lifespan of the Alcomon Indicator System" by top technology research institute TNO Science and Industry concludes:
"Based on the results of this investigation it is concluded that the Alcomon Indicator System will function properly for a period of 50 years, when the indicator pills are used in an ethanol water solution where the pills are on the bottom of the jar".

ALCOMON PRESENTATION HANDOUTS NOW AVAILABLE
These straightforward explanatory handouts can be used for your presentation about the benefits of the Alcomon Indicator System. Go to the download section on this page.

INDEPENDENT TESTING
Accuracy of indicators tested at various storage temperatures by the Museu de Ciencies Naturals de Barcelona. To see the results download the poster presentation on this page.

TIGHT TOLERANCES
Customised and refined process technology guarantees tight tolerances. In one production batch, the indicators have density tolerances within 0.002 g/ml (<1% EtOH).

IMPROVED DESIGN FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE
Advanced design and new production tooling ensures optimum performance and excludes delayed indicator response to concentration shifts.
